Pokémon Card Set and Edition Identifier
Start from the set symbol in the card's bottom corner, or from the marking you are unsure about. Each page lists the checks in the order that settles the most cards fastest. No prices here; this is about knowing exactly which card and which version you have.
How to place any Pokémon card
- No set symbol, no shadow on the art box, thin HP font: Base Set Shadowless; with a 1st Edition stamp, the first print run.
- No set symbol but a drop shadow on the art box: Base Set Unlimited (or the 1999-2000 fourth print, which adds a copyright line).
- A symbol next to the number: match it to the set pages here; symbols are unique per set.
- A letter in a box at the bottom (D–H): a modern card; the letter gives the regulation era.

FAQ
How do I tell if my Charizard is 1st Edition?
Look below the art box on the left for a black circular "Edition 1" stamp. A Base Set Charizard with the stamp and no drop shadow on the art box is a 1st Edition Shadowless card. See the 1st Edition and Base Set pages.
What do the circle, diamond and star mean?
Rarity: circle is common, diamond uncommon, star rare. Holo, reverse holo and the modern rarities (double rare, illustration rare, special illustration rare, hyper rare) have their own marks; the rarity page lists them.
Can the app identify a Pokémon card from a photo?
It reads the card name, set and number from a flat, well-lit photo. Edition stamps and holo patterns need a close-up; use the checks on each page to confirm the version.
