Most Expensive Magic Cards: Record Sales and Prices

The most expensive Magic card ever sold is an Alpha Black Lotus graded CGC Pristine 10, at $3,000,000 in March 2024. Sales in Wikipedia's list of the most expensive collectible card game cards:

On Cardmarket in Europe, Three for One Trading's July 3, 2026 list put the highest asking price at €108,243.94 for a serialized Sol Ring from the Lord of the Rings Commander extras, one of 300.

• The first set, 1993. Every Black Lotus sale above and most of the guide-price list are Alpha cards; Wikipedia puts Alpha's whole print run at 2.6 million cards.
• The Power Nine. Black Lotus, Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, Timetwister and the five Moxen are on the Reserved List and will not be reprinted (Wikipedia).
• Signatures and proofs. Four of the six Black Lotus sales above are signed copies or artist proofs.
• Serial numbers on modern cards. The One Ring (1 of 1), Golden Chocobo (1 of 77) and the Sol Ring (1 of 300) show how Wizards now creates scarcity inside new sets.

Lay the card flat on a dark surface in daylight and photograph it straight on with the whole card in frame, then take a close-up of the lower edge where the set symbol or set code, the card number and any edition mark sit. Tilt holo cards for a second shot so the foil pattern shows, and photograph the back.
